How verbal opt-in is collected

Explain the program

During an in-person or telephone conversation, a Lake Effects Boat Club staff member reads the complete script on this page and offers to review the SMS terms and privacy notice.

Ask for an individual choice

Confirm the mobile number and that the person is its subscriber or authorized user. Ask for an affirmative answer. Silence, an RSVP, membership, and a number already on file do not count as consent.

Document the answer before sending

For a clear yes, staff must retain the actual consent details in the club’s private member records before sending. If the answer is no or unclear, do not enroll the number. Do not assume a companion has also consented.

Honor the member’s decision

Limit messages to the disclosed Lake Lotus program. Honor STOP and other withdrawal requests, and do not resume messaging without obtaining fresh consent in the form required by the messaging provider and applicable law.

Private consent recordkeeping

For each actual opt-in, staff must record:

  • Member name and the specific mobile number that was opted in.
  • Date, time, and method of the conversation: in person or by telephone.
  • Name of the staff member who collected permission.
  • The script version and disclosures actually provided to the member.
  • The member’s affirmative response and any later withdrawal of consent.

Keep these records privately in the club’s member records, available for an authorized compliance review. Retain proof for the required legal period and at least until consent is withdrawn; preserve opt-out information to prevent further messages. This page does not create or store individual consent records.

An individual yes is required
This page documents a verbal opt-in procedure, not evidence that any particular member has consented. Use it as verification evidence only if it matches the process actually used. Membership, an RSVP, or a stored phone number is not text-message consent.
