Exclusively for Lake Effects Boat Club members · Adults only

Choose your evening

A character. Or simply yourself.

You are not reserving overnight accommodations. Choose a character theme to play during the Lake Lotus member event, or the Come As You Are Suite for the same evening in polished resort wear—no character, costume, or role-play expectations.

Character themes are shared by several members and stay available until their guest places are filled. Dress for the part, make the role your own, and enjoy the mystery until the last torch is out.

Orchid Suite · Garden Wing · Lake View

The Influencer’s Suite

Our signature room, papered floor to ceiling in hand-painted palms. The best light on the property, and everyone staying here knows it.

Your character · The Influencer

You are documenting the entire evening for an audience that may or may not exist. Nothing is eaten before it is photographed.

  • Golden hour is a deadline, treat it like one
  • Refer to the resort as "this hidden gem"
  • Ask staff to take one more, but vertical this time

Start with these cues, add a signature phrase, habit, or accessory, and introduce yourself as the character. You are in contention for Best Dressed and Best Role Play.

The Commodore · Dockside · Water Level

The Wealthy Guest’s Suite

Steps from the slips, for the guest who wants to hear the water move all evening. Brass fittings, teak floors, and a view of every arrival.

Your character · The Wealthy Guest

Old money, older grudges. You have summered here since before it was fashionable and you would like everyone to sense that without you saying it.

  • Complain beautifully about nothing
  • Mention the boat. Never point at it
  • Tip in cash, folded, without breaking eye contact

Start with these cues, add a signature phrase, habit, or accessory, and introduce yourself as the character. You are in contention for Best Dressed and Best Role Play.

The Newlyweds’ Suite

The most social room on property, positioned directly above the terrace so the music finds you whether or not you asked for it.

Your character · The Newlyweds

Married minutes ago, as far as anyone here knows. Unbearably affectionate, faintly exhausted, and already having your first disagreement about the registry.

  • Toast each other at unprompted moments
  • Call everything "our first" — our first dinner, our first torch
  • One of you loves it here. The other is being brave about it

The Lotus Villa · Point House · Private Entrance

The Mysterious Traveler’s Villa

A standalone villa at the end of the point, discreet enough that the staff pretend not to know who is staying in it.

Your character · The Mysterious Traveler

Nobody knows how you got on the guest list, including you. You answer questions with slightly worse questions and leave every conversation first.

  • Be vague about your arrival. And your departure
  • Know one guest’s name you should have no way of knowing
  • Step away to "take a call" — there is no call

Start with these cues, add a signature phrase, habit, or accessory, and introduce yourself as the character. You are in contention for Best Dressed and Best Role Play.

The Flybridge · Dockside · Largest Slip

The New Money’s Suite

Newly renovated, and the renovation is the point — everything in it is the most recent version of itself. Sits above the biggest slip on the dock, which was not an accident.

Your character · The New Money

You bought the biggest boat on the lake last season and you have not stopped talking about it since. You are having a wonderful time, which the old money finds unforgivable.

  • Name the price of something unprompted
  • Invite strangers onto the boat. All of them
  • Be genuinely, loudly delighted by everything

The Free Spirits’ Suite

A weathered bungalow at the end of the garden path, hung with beads and dried herbs. The most relaxed room on the property, and the incense reaches the terrace on a good breeze.

Your character · The Free Spirits

A couple who found each other at a music festival and never fully came back. Endlessly mellow, endlessly agreeable, and running about forty minutes behind the schedule everyone else is on.

  • Answer every question with "the universe kind of handled it"
  • Compliment a stranger’s aura, sincerely
  • Drift toward wherever the music is, mid-sentence

A big corner room with the largest bed in the house, requested by telephone and confirmed with a handshake nobody was present for.

Your character · The Texans

A couple fresh off a long drive from Texas, delighted by everything and briefed on nothing. You have never been to a lake resort like this and you have questions about all of it.

  • Call the lake "the pond" and mean no harm by it
  • Ask loudly what a course is when the plate is that small
  • Offer a firm handshake to absolutely everyone

The Agents’ Suite

A corner room chosen for its sightlines rather than its view, positioned so both doors of the main house stay visible from the window.

Your character · The Agents

A couple in resort wear that is somehow entirely black, insisting they are simply on holiday. You are watching something tonight, and it is not the sunset.

  • Sit facing the door. Always
  • Speak to each other in short, unnecessary code words
  • Deny being on assignment before anyone accuses you

How to play the part

A little preparation. Plenty of improvisation.

For guests choosing a character suite, no acting experience or memorized script is needed. Build a recognizable character, say yes to the story around you, and give other guests something fun to play with.

  • Choose one or two signature details—a phrase, posture, accessory, or habit—and return to them throughout the evening.
  • Introduce yourself as your character and invent a simple reason you have come to Lake Lotus.
  • Use the cues in your briefing as conversation starters, then improvise rather than memorizing a script.
  • Invite others into the fun: ask about their story, agree with an amusing detail, or add a harmless twist of your own.
  • Stay playful, gracious, and inclusive. The goal is shared entertainment, never embarrassing another guest.
  • Remain in character from arrival through the awards; if you lose the thread, simply begin again with confidence.

Two awards · One evening

The honors at stake

Best Dressed

Awarded for standout, polished resort style—whether you dress as a character or come as yourself. All suites are eligible. You must be present at the final reveal to win.

Best Role Play

Awarded to the guest who commits to the part, improvises generously, and keeps the story alive throughout the evening. You must be present at the final reveal to win.

The judges will consider the full evening, from arrival through the final award. Commitment matters more than perfection—and generosity makes every performance better.
